The Heart Truth Red Dress

The legendary Liza Minnelli took to the runway wearing a frock from Halston and at the end of her turn, serenaded the standing-room-only venue with her signature song, "New York, New York."

The Red Dress Collection is shown each February to raise awareness for The Heart Truth, the federal government’s program to raise awareness about heart disease in women. This is the Red Dress Collection's sixth turn in the Bryant Park tents, where designers have partnered with celebrities to create and show one-of-a-kind dresses. Past designers have included Calvin Klein’s Francisco Costa, Carolina Herrera and Oscar de la Renta dressing such celebrities as Lindsay Lohan, Angela Bassett and both Sarah Fergusons—the former duchess and the pop star.

The international ambassador for The Heart Truth—first lady Laura Bush, who attended the show with her daughter Barbara—kicked off the show by greeting the fashion crowd. "You've inspired women to wear smaller red dresses," she said, "through healthy eating, regular exercise and seeing doctors regularly."

The show started with a shimmery Molly Sims in a crystal-encrusted Daniel Swarovski dress. Lisa Rinna, in a fringe-y Michael Kors, shimmied and shook her way down the catwalk, showing off her "Dancing with the Stars" moves and ramping things up for her husband, Harry Hamlin, at the end of the runway. Rita Moreno, who starred in "West Side Story" many years ago, danced down the runway to that musical's overture in a Lily Samii suit and hat.

Sara Ramirez, from “Grey’s Anatomy,” wore a strapless Angel Sanchez—and was concerned about the catwalk. "I was wearing my boots when they walked me through rehearsal, so we'll see what happens." She worked the runway better than most models and looked to be having the most fun doing it.

Songbird Joss Stone, in Max Azria Atelier, didn't have a problem with her heels, as she cruised the catwalk barefoot. "Project Runway” host Heidi Klum was all legs in her super short Marc Jacobs sheath, showing some serious skin and a few flashes of her famous bare booty.
"Juno" star Allison Janney, in a long, slim Donna Karan, had a simple goal for the day. "I just don't want to fall—that’s it," she said. "I'm just going to have fun.”

The newly pregnant Mary Lynn Rajskub debuted her baby bump in Monique Lhuillier. "I feel really good," she said. "I was nervous this morning, but we practiced." Still, she admitted, "I'll eat at any chance I get," particularly ice cream and pasta.

Other participants were Maria Menounos in Marchesa, Ashanti in Tracy Reese, Cheryl Hines in Catherine Malandrino, Jenna Fischer for Carmen Marc Valvo, "Ugly Betty’s” Ana Ortiz in Badgley Mischka and Camryn Manheim in Ali Rahimi.
